Kanahooka High School is committed to ensuring that students are assisted onto the path which helps them to their desired career. Ms Phelan is available to assist students in selecting work experience placements, TVET training courses and short courses including First Aid, OH&S, RSA and other related TAFE short courses. 

 

MyFutureThere are many excellent resources to help you with your career planning. Myfuture is Australia's career information and exploration service with thousands of resources to plan your career journey. This excellent website also has a section especially for parents and guardians. Recommended for all ages! It is never too early to get started on your career journey

 

Study at TAFE in Year 11 or 12: A great way to get started is to try a TVET course in Year 10, 11 or 12. For more information go to the TVET Illawarra website or speak with Ms Phelan. Applications are due September each year for study the following year.

 

Applying for UniversityThe UAC Guide is a great place to start with your university research. You may search by area of interest, by ATAR cutoff or by institution. Discuss your options with Ms Phelan to make sure you have the most up to date information.

 

The SALT website (Supporting and linking tradeswomen) is a great source of ideas and inspiration for girls interested in a trade.

 

Applying for Apprenticeships: Employers like to see that you are keen and interested in the career and that you have had some experience. For this reason, it is important to do work experience, take a TVET course, do appropriate school subjects for this career or have a hobby that support the area in which you are seeking an apprenticeship. See Ms Phelan for ideas on how to best prepare for apprenticeships.
